The ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit for the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation will be held on 16-18 December 2023 in Tokyo.

Japan and ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations), which consists of ten Southeast Asian nations, have built a cooperative partnership for peace and stability, as well as development and prosperity in the region for more than 30 years. Japan and ASEAN also have built close relations as business partners.

According to preliminary ASEAN data, total merchandise trade between ASEAN and Japan reached USD 225.9 billion in 2019, accounting for 8.0 per cent of ASEAN’s total merchandise trade, while total Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows from Japan amounted to USD 20.4 billion, accounting for 12.7 per cent of total FDI inflows to ASEAN.

This partnership project aims to explore the possibilities of a new partnership between ASEAN and Japan, especially three fields such as Infrastructure & FDI, trade & business and digital & technology.

This strategic partnership framework completely aligns with HAKOVO's digitalised End to End Trade Platform for Japan–Indonesia Trade Corridor project.
